This premium gingerbread has been a specialty of the Bavarian town of Nuremberg (follow our guided tour here)
– a former crossroads for historic trading and spice routes – ever
since Franconian monks invented lebkuchen in the Middle Ages.
Distinguished by its high-quality ingredients (almond and hazelnut
flours, marzipan, candied citron and orange peel), minimal (less than
10%) flour content, and edible "oblaten" wafer bottom (which has its
roots in the communion wafer), this type of gingerbread is widely
regarded as the finest in the world. We spent over a year developing our
recipe and baking technique in Germany, creating a proprietary blend
of 9 different spices to make this moist, dense, and chewy treat. Available in two authentic varieties: Classic (covered with a sugar glaze) and Chocolate (enrobed in a dark chocolate). Select 'Assorted' if you can't decide -- it's our most popular option!
Every lebkuchen is made by hand in NYC and has a shelf life of up to 6-8 weeks without artificial preservatives. This tin design features a colorful honeycomb pattern, which complements the honeystick seen in our bear logo on the lid. Tin contains 5 lebkuchen. Net weight 1 lb (453g).
Leckerlee's lebkuchen tins follow the longstanding tradition of

of preserving the fragrance and flavor of the spiced treats. They were
often purchased as seasonal gifts, a practice that continues today as
holiday shoppers await lebkuchen producers’ new annual tin designs to give to friends and family. Our tins are an homage to vintage lebkuchen tins, such as the ones seen here. Many vintage lebkuchen tins have
become collectors’ items today, and much like their historic
counterparts, Leckerlee’s limited edition tins are intended to be kept in the household
long after the lebkuchen inside is eaten. These premium tins are made of heavyweight tinplate and feature precision embossing on the lids. Turn the tin over and you will discover a small signature: a heart that mirrors the bear's heart on the top of the tin.The tins measure 4 5/8" in diameter and 5 1/4" tall.
